Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce Annual Sidewalk Sales Days 2011

THE MOUNT KISCO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

What a PERFECT Day!

Sales Days 2011 turned out to be a wonderful event. The weather cooperated to the max! It was clear & crisp – it just made you want to spend the day strolling through downtown Mount Kisco. The vendor mix was wonderful – the carnival was stupendous – and the entertainment was top notch!

Sales Days is a major undertaking by the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce. There are many elements that all have to come together in order for us to host such a successful event. The first in line for our appreciation is the Sales Days Committee; they begin in June putting in countless hours behind the scenes. Our committee chairman, George Arco, is a veteran of many Sales Days. His experience is irreplaceable in organizing and delivering a successful event. In an effort to make Sales Days a larger and richer event we were joined this year by Chereese Jervis-Hill and her staff at Events To Remember. They came on this year to help us grow Sales Days into a bigger and better affair. Barbara Gips also joined on this year; she functioned as the chair of the Entertainment Committee. Barbara put in countless hours contacting leads and following up on potential entertainers. The Sales Days Committee this year was composed of: Phil Bronzi [Community Mutual Bank], Fran Mauro [TD Bank], Ed Zapson [Edward Jones Investments], Charlie Hellmich [Mahopac Bank], Rina Bellamy [My Second Home], Suzanne Siebert [People’s United Bank], Vince Lemma [Antalek & Moore Insurance Agency], Kevin Kane, Jill Sage, Donna Arena, & Dan Sclafani [Saw Mill Club], Judy Simon [A&J Home Care], Barbara Gips [The Lice Patrol],Brian Skanes [Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester], Keri Reitman [Mount Kisco Childcare Center], and Jessica Torres.

In addition, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our many sponsors. We were generously aided by TD Bank as our Carnival & Dunk Tank Sponsor; A&J Home Care and Main Street Arts as our Entertainment Stage Sponsors; People’s United Bank as our Map Sponsor; and Antalek & Moore Insurance Agency, Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, Arco Cleaning, Events To Remember, JEWEL // a program of Mt. Kisco Child Care Center & My Second Home, NYCONN Security Systems Inc., P. Morrissey Contracting Inc., Patch.com, Reber’s Florist, Sign-A-Rama, and Whalen’s Moving & Storage as our General Sponsors. We also have annual sponsors that support the Chamber throughout the year. On the Platinum Level we have Northern Westchester Hospital; on the Gold Level we have A& J Home Care and Saw Mill Club; on the Silver Level our sponsors are: Accel Printing, Arco Cleaning, Mahopac National Bank, People’s United Bank, and The Mount Kisco Monetary Group. Many of these same individuals do double duty by volunteering their time and expertise to Sales Days.

The Volunteers that are never seen are those who perform the actual setup for the event. Starting at 6:30 am on Saturday they turn out to set up the vendor tables. The list of volunteers for this work include: the hard working volunteers from Neighbor’s Link, Yolanda & Eric Castillo, Eric Cavanna, Fran Mauro, Jenette Wolfberg, Mike Cardillo, Jane Pieragostini, Beth Vetare-Civitello, Mariangela Cavani, Maria Lepp, Andre Ferrara, Ram Dhoj Bista, Madhuri Bista Subedi, George Arco, Mike Jones, Vince Lemma, Charles Hellmich, John Reber, Miguel Lopez, Brian Skanes, Phil Bronzi, Lisa Stewart, and Matthew Thomas.

Special thanks also goes to Mayor Cindrich and the Village Board for allowing us to use the town’s resources and for providing free meter parking, Jim Palmer for his office’s cooperation, Acting-Chief Pat O’Reilly for his Police enforcement, Charlie Pieragostini for the Recreation Department’s sound system, and Joe Luppino and Pat Brown for their Highway Department efforts to keep our event neat. Thank you for the attendance of the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department, and the Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Additionally, we are grateful for the administrative support volunteered by Jeannette Wolfberg and the volunteer services of three students from Fox Lane High School.

Steve Young and his creative staff at Minuteman Press went above and beyond in assisting the chamber in creating the Sales Days Map. The map & schedule was available for distribution before and during the event. It was well received and was an effective means to inform attendees of what was planned for the two day event.
Sales Days 2011 was greatly enhanced by the presence of two stages. We had the traditional stage in the Promenade area and we added a new stage in the pop-up area. Saturday found us treated to performances by: Alison Gips, Lisa Jane Lipkin, The Fred Astaire Dancers with both the children of MKCCC and the Dance Club, The Blue Dogs, Robin & The Hoods, an ensemble cast from Main Street Arts, Fred Gillen, and Frank Enea. There were also demonstrations by Takahashi Karate, World Cup Gymnastics, and Blackbelt Tae Kwon Do Fitness Center. Sunday presented us with performances by Cel-tar, Fred Astaire Dancers with both the children of MKCCC and various Adult Performers, an ensemble cast from Main Street Arts, Kaymus, and Tjay. There were also demonstrations by Takahashi Karate, a Zumba demonstration from the Saw Mill Club East, and Blackbelt Tae Kwon Do Fitness Center as well as appearance by Miss Westchester, Miss Westchester Teen, and Miss Hudson Valley. Thank you all so much for your wonderful performances.

We need to remember the vendors who participate in Sales Days. We had new food vendors who delighted the crowds. We had a great mix of vendors showcasing their services as well as those that sold their products. A major addition in 2011 was Funtime Amusements, Inc. They provided the carnival attractions this year. The inflatables were a big hit with the parents and children alike. Another major hit this year was Bob Scopelliti’s train; the big purple Number Eight. The funds collected from the train rides went to the Lions Club.
Also, thank you to sponsors and members who contributed generously in other ways: Ed Zapson and the Saw Mill Club for allowing us to use their office for our committee meetings, Whalen’s Moving and Storage for housing our umbrellas for the other 363 days of the year, Nancy Hack of The Hack Agency who donated the dance floor which we used as a stage on Saturday and Sunday, John Reber from Reber’s florist who once again organized the display of Antique Cars, Fox Caterers for our use of their trucks, those who volunteered to man the Chamber table and distribute maps and Lifestyles, and, of course a big thank you to all those who contributed their people power in getting all of our flyers and posters distributed around town. Additional thanks go to Chico’s for offering their electricity and to Connie’s for the use of their water to fill the crowd pleasing dunk tank. Our Dunk Tank was manned by Montana Hooker, Victor Davila, Stephanie Basso, Michelle Carozo, Matt Grasso, Nicole Artis, and Kent Dowdy.

Sales Days is truly a community event. The Chamber of Commerce could not do it without the help of everyone listed above. I want to thank the local businesses and non-profit organizations who participated and of course everyone who attended from Mount Kisco and the surrounding communities.
PS - We are actively looking for volunteers for Sales Days 2012 – Sales Days is an evolving event and we welcome new ideas and participation. We start planning early --- so if you’re interested, please let us know!
